Safe Data Storage

Secure data storage is an essential element of any business IT strategy. It involves identifying and reducing threats to the safety of confidential or sensitive information while ensuring that the information is accessible to those who need it.

The most important and fundamental aspect of safe storage of data is ensuring that the physical security of a storage location, record or file is as strong as it is to prevent unauthorized access by insiders or external attackers. This is done by using role-based access control to limit the scope and depth of access privileges a user has. This also includes utilizing a system to record the removal and reentry of records in order to stop data from being removed or retrieved by unauthorised users.

A strong password is another important aspect of secure data storage. Passwords should be hard to guess and shouldn’t be shared or left in plain sight.

Immutable storage is a great method to prevent bad actors from altering the data on disks, SSDs, and the cloud. This is accomplished by using encryption in conjunction along with other security features such as traffic profiling and machine learning-based data loss prevention systems.

Of course the fact is that no data storage system is completely secure however the objective should be to make it as hard to hack as it is so that the cost to a hacker is higher than the value of compromised data. A comprehensive IT infrastructure will include regular updates to operating systems and software. It will also be equipped with a robust security infrastructure to stop unauthorized users from accessing storage systems.
